Get Netflix USA on Apple TV (October 2020 Updated)

Last updated: October 1, 2020 by Nick

You’re a streaming buff. You paid good money to get an Apple TV, and you probably even may have brought yourself a large TV screen. Maybe a surround system too, but now you’re frustrated because the Apple TV you got has a limited library since you’re not in the USA. Well let me show you how to not waste your Apple TVs full potential and get Netflix UK on your Apple TV.

There are many ways to bypass these regional restrictions, so it’s fairly easy to get what you want. There are many ways to change your Netflix library let’s go by them one by one. However, one common element will be the use of a VPN service.

Your IP address indicates where you are physically present, a VPN service like Surfshark can let you replace your IP address and let you access into different regions. As your IP would be changed to American (in our case), you would be allowed access as Netflix would identify you are visiting from the U.S.

Steps to Get Netflix USA on Apple TV

To get different regional libraries on your Apple TV, it is advised that first you follow these steps:

In the case of US:

  •         Go to the Settings on your Apple TV
  •         Connect to the US region with Surfshark
  •         Go back to you home screen.

While this might not be important for all the methods, however, it’s best to do it so that we don’t face any hurdles

Get Netflix USA by Using Your Phone’s Hotspot

I’ve tried to keep this guide as simple and practical as possible, if you have a VPN service on your phone, simply turn it on along your hotspot and connect it to your Apple TV. Follow these steps if you don’t have a VPN service

  •         Subscribe to a VPN service.
  •         Download and install the app on your phone.
  •         Sign in with your credentials
  •         From the list of countries connect to an American server.
  •         Turn on your Hotspot.
  •         On your Apple TV, from the list of Wi-Fi devices available connect to your phones Hotspot.

Get Netflix USA by Using Your Computers Hotspot

Similar to using the phone’s hotspot, you can also use an idle laptop’s hotspot if you have the VPN app on it, steps to connect to the American server remain same. All you have to do is:

  •         Subscribe to a VPN service like Surfshark.
  •         Download and install the app on your computer.
  •         Sign in with your credentials
  •         From the list of countries connect to an American server.
  •         Turn on your Hotspot.
  •         On your Apple TV, from the list of Wi-Fi devices available connect to your computer’s Hotspot.

Get Netflix USA by Changing Your Router settings.

You can altogether change your router settings as well, I don’t prefer this method though, since router settings for every device vary and not all routers are VPN compatible either. However, if you’re non stop VPN protection, saving time during installs and a one stop solution to secure all the devices at your home than setting your router is recommended.

Here’s how you can set up Surfshark on your Router:

  •         On your PC open the router configuration panel. To do this enter your router’s IP address in your browser, and press enter. This is may vary depending on the operating system. Windows 10 users can do this by going to “Command Prompt” and typing type in “ipconfig” and pressing “Enter. You will see your router’s IP address on the “Default Gateway” line.
  •         Follow your VPN client’s guidelines. Each VPN app has a different setup process for different firmware. For example, here are Surfshark’s instructions for setting up a VPN on Asus routers (https://support.surfshark.com/hc/en-us/articles/360003106093), DD-WRT routers (https://support.surfshark.com/hc/en-us/articles/360003086114) and Tomato routers (https://support.surfshark.com/hc/en-us/articles/360003780834).
  •         Now go and check your IP address, you have successfully connected US server on your Router.
